Webinar Description

This webinar will explore the advanced technique of awake craniotomy, a specialized neurosurgical procedure that allows for the precise removal of brain tumors, management of epilepsy, and application of deep brain stimulation (DBS) while the patient is awake and responsive. We will discuss the comprehensive process, including patient selection, preoperative planning, anesthesia management, intraoperative communication, and postoperative care. Emphasis will be placed on the benefits, risks, ethical considerations, and technological advancements that contribute to the success of this complex yet increasingly common surgical approach.

Webinar Summary

Awake craniotomy represents a cutting-edge approach in neurosurgery that combines precision with patient safety, allowing surgeons to perform delicate procedures on critical brain areas while the patient remains awake and communicative. This webinar will provide an in-depth overview of the procedure, starting from its definition and purpose to the latest technological advances that have improved its outcomes. Topics include the indications for awake craniotomy, such as tumor resection, epilepsy surgery, and deep brain stimulation, as well as the steps involved in patient selection and preparation.

Participants will learn about the intricate details of preoperative planning, the role of anesthesia in maintaining patient comfort, and the importance of intraoperative communication to ensure the procedure’s success. The session will also address the common risks and complications associated with awake craniotomy, along with strategies for their management. Ethical and psychological considerations, including patient consent and support, will be thoroughly examined.

Furthermore, the webinar will highlight the future directions of awake craniotomy, with a focus on ongoing research, improved techniques, and the potential for patient-specific approaches. This comprehensive exploration will equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to optimize outcomes in awake craniotomy procedures, ultimately enhancing patient care and surgical precision.
