“Unveiling Our Distinguished Speaker: Nigel D. Roberts – Enhancing Human Factors and Civility in the Operating Room”
It is with great pleasure that we introduce Mr. Nigel D. Roberts, our distinguished speaker for the upcoming webinar on “Enhancing Human Factors and Civility in the Operating Room.”
Mr. Roberts, a final-year PhD student and Head Theatre Practitioner at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, is at the forefront of pioneering research in patient safety within theatres. Collaborating with colleagues, he is diligently working on a comprehensive pocket guide aimed at improving healthcare practices.
Drawing from four years of extensive study, Mr. Roberts has identified “human factors” and “civility” as crucial components that can significantly impact the patient journey and enhance staff support. His ambition is to educate and instill these elements into the daily activities of operating theatres, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
What sets Mr. Roberts’s work apart is his incorporation of the 2006 Alamberti et al. adapted model, a user-friendly infographic on the surgical checklist designed for all staff members. His research not only emphasizes the need for ongoing learning in healthcare safety but also draws insightful comparisons with other high-risk industries like rail, nuclear, and aviation.
Positive reactions have already been witnessed at training events and conferences, underscoring the urgency of immediate action to ensure proper resource allocation and prioritize ongoing education on the surgical checklist, human factors, and civility.
Mr. Nigel D. Roberts holds various qualifications, including an MSc, BA (Hons), ODP, NEBOSH in Occupational Health and Safety, and Prince 2 Foundation. Beyond his role as a PhD student, he serves as a visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University, West Midlands Regional Lead for AfPP, and Deputy Chair of NPAG (Theatre Managers).
We are honored to have Mr. Nigel D. Roberts as our distinguished speaker, and we invite you to join us for what promises to be an enlightening and impactful webinar.
