Introducing Miss (Dr) Samantha Z. Tross, MBBS, FRCS, FRCS Ed, FRCS Ed (Tr&Orth)
Ladies and gentlemen, we are thrilled to introduce our esteemed speaker for the upcoming webinar, Miss (Dr) Samantha Z. Tross, MBBS, FRCS, FRCS Ed, FRCS Ed (Tr&Orth). Dr. Tross is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hip & Knee Surgeon based in London, making history as the first black female in the UK to hold such a position when appointed in 2005. Notably, she was also the first woman in Europe to perform Mako Robotic Hip Surgery.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Dr. Tross pursued her secondary education in England and attended University College and the Middlesex School of Medicine. She furthered her expertise through Fellowships in Toronto, Canada, and Sydney, Australia, specializing in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery and joint Arthroscopy, following the completion of her Orthopaedic Training in London.
In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Tross is actively engaged in medical education as an Educational Supervisor overseeing the training of junior doctors. She serves as a Trustee and Founder Member of the British Association of Black Surgeons (BABS), Secretary of the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance, and a member of the EDI Forum of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Dr. Tross is recognized globally for her contributions to orthopaedics. She holds positions as an External Examiner for the University of the West Indies in Trinidad & Tobago and Associate Professor of Orthopaedics for the American University of the Caribbean. Her leadership roles include past Lead of Ealing Hospital Orthopaedic Department, Imperial College Surgical Finals Examiner, and Editor of the Journal of Medical Case Reports. Additionally, she is a proud member of the Cultural & Diversity Committee of the British Hip Society.
Her achievements extend beyond her medical practice, with recognitions such as the Black British Business Award, Zenith Healthcare Pioneer Award, Wintrade Award, and the Caribbean Global Health Award. In 2023, she was honored in the MiPAD class Global Top 100 and continues to be featured in the Black Powerlist of 100 most influential Black Britons since 2012. Dr. Tross is one of the distinguished surgeons currently profiled in the Huntley Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
