Join Our Action Plan Committees

At the TORG Nigeria Chapter (TORG-NG), we are committed to implementing the recommendations from the TORG 2024 Inaugural Scientific Conference. To achieve our goals, we are establishing five key committees, each responsible for addressing critical areas of healthcare development in Nigeria. We are calling on dedicated professionals, advocates, and stakeholders to volunteer and help us drive progress and innovation within our healthcare system.

1. TORG-NG Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Policy Advocacy and Development: Advocate for data collection, analysis, and policy development focused on diversity, inclusion, stigma, and discrimination in healthcare.
  • Training and Education: Create and implement training programs for healthcare employers, and collaborate with institutions to address admission gaps for underrepresented groups.
  • Community Engagement: Partner with civil society organizations to promote diversity initiatives and maintain ongoing dialogue with stakeholders.

Committee Composition:

  • Chair: An experienced nurse or doctor or operating room professional with expertise in diversity and inclusion.
  • Members: A minimum of 5 members including Policy Makers, Healthcare Administrators, Civil Society Representatives, and Training Institutions Representatives.

2. TORG-NG Workplace Health and Safety Committee

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Health and Ergonomics: Develop guidelines to prevent low back pain through ergonomic practices and provide resources for safe patient lifting.
  • Training and Support: Organize ergonomic training for new and existing staff, and advocate for nursing leadership support in heavy lifting tasks.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Review and act on data related to the prevalence of low back pain among healthcare workers and implement daily stretching exercises.

Committee Composition:

  • Chair: An experienced nurse or doctor or OR professional specializing in occupational health.
  • Members: A minimum of 5 members including Hospital Managers, Ergonomics Experts, Nursing Leaders, and Healthcare Workers Representatives.

3. TORG-NG Pain Management Committee

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Training and Implementation: Conduct workshops on essential pain management and support the implementation of advanced pain management techniques.
  • Standards and Compliance: Improve pain assessment skills among healthcare providers and address barriers to effective pain management.
  • Advocacy and Innovation: Advocate for proper remuneration for pain management specialists and promote innovative practices across specialties.

Committee Composition:

  • Chair: An experienced nurse or doctor or OR professional specializing in pain management.
  • Members: A minimum of 5 members including Healthcare Providers, Pain Management Experts, Hospital Managers, and Policy Makers.

4. TORG-NG Sterilization and Infection Control Committee

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Standards and Compliance: Advocate for modern sterilization techniques and equipment in hospitals, ensuring proper packaging and monitoring for sterilized items.
  • Training and Support: Provide training for sterile processing technicians and guide transitions from outdated methods to advanced technologies.
  • Collaboration and Resources: Foster partnerships to improve sterilization practices and advocate for investments in proper equipment and processes.

Committee Composition:

  • Chair: An experienced nurse or doctor or OR professional with expertise in sterilization and infection control.
  • Members: A minimum of 5 members including Healthcare Facility Managers, Sterile Processing Technicians, Technology Providers, and Policy Makers.

5. TORG-NG Curriculum and Education Development Committee

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Enhancement: Collaborate with educational institutions to update surgical education curricula and expand simulation-based learning.
  • Professional Development: Advocate for continuous professional development and team-based approaches in surgical education.
  • Support and Advocacy: Develop policies for better remuneration and incentives for surgical specialists.

Committee Composition:

  • Chair: An experienced nurse or doctor or OR professional specializing in educational curriculum development.
  • Members: A minimum of 5 members including Academic Representatives, Healthcare Professionals, Professional Associations, and Training Coordinators.
