Ladies and gentlemen,
We are honored to welcome Prof. David J. O’Regan as our distinguished speaker for today’s TORG Webinar. Prof. O’Regan will be presenting on “The Anatomy of the Needle and the Ergonomics of Stitching: Getting it Right all the Time.”
Prof. O’Regan is the Founder and CEO of the Black Belt Academy of Surgical Skills (BBASS) and a Professor in the Medical Education and Research Unit of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He served as a consultant adult cardiac surgeon at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in the UK from 2001 to 2022.
Prof. O’Regan has been instrumental in advancing surgical education and training. He established the Yorkshire Heart Centre Wetlab, raising over £60,000 to create a state-of-the-art skills center. He has also developed national training courses, including the critically acclaimed ‘PAR Excellence’ and ‘PAR Aorta,’ which have been running for over two decades.
Through BBASS, Prof. O’Regan has created a technique-based system for mastering surgical skills using low fidelity models, garnering a global following. He has also played a key role in professionalizing surgical trainers as the Director of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the RCSEd and has been a Visiting Professor at Imperial College, London. Notably, TORG and BBASS are official partners, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing surgical education.
