The Operating Room Global (TORG) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Johnson Ogundare as the new Chairperson of the TORG Executive Council. Johnson Ogundare brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this esteemed position, and we are excited to have him lead the way in advancing our mission to enhance surgical care and healthcare outcomes worldwide.

As the Chairperson of the TORG Executive Council, Johnson Ogundare will play a crucial role in providing strategic guidance and direction to our organization. His leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of surgical practices, advocating for patient safety, and promoting evidence-based approaches to elevate the standard of care in operating rooms across the globe.

Johnson Ogundare is a Registered Nurse, an Author, Entrepreneur, and Founder/CEO SNEMIS-Nigeria with a passion for professional development through human capacity building, and optimal nursing care. As a patient advocate, Johnson ensures quality and safe patient care in a patient-centered environment. He is highly committed to career development through a commitment to lifelong learning. He specializes in perioperative nursing with an interest in advanced surgical services. His interest in the patient, personnel, and public safety informed his decision to batch a higher degree (MPH) from the Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria and currently, a candidate for the award of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the Aspen University, United States of America.

Johnson was an Advanced Perioperative Nurse Specialist and first surgeon assistant to most visiting surgeons from the UK, USA, and India because he distinguished himself in terms of competency and standards of practice in 11 surgical specialties while working at the prestigious University College Hospital, Ibadan. So, he has participated in majorly pioneered minimally invasive surgeries in Nigeria, such as the first Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Bariatric surgery, and advanced urological surgeries across the country.

He has a work permit to practice in Nigeria, the Philippines, the UK, and the USA as a nurse. He is the first international nurse to get a Research Fellowship in Neuro-endoscopy and minimally invasive spine surgery at the Department of Neurosciences, Oschner Medical Centre, NOLA as well as the first international nurse (with a foreign RN license) to do an internship in a US hospital (RIH and TMH, Rhode Island, USA). He also got an honorary fellow program in the GI and Bariatric division of the University College London Hospital, UK.  He identified the need to provide support for perioperative nursing schools, registered nurses in hospitals with surgical services in Nigeria and sub-Sahara African Countries through SNEMIS (Society for Nurses in Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery) and other healthcare professional platforms.

While in Nigeria, Nurse Ogundare worked as Perioperative Nurse at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He also worked as a Clinical Applications Trainer-Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery with JNCI International, became the first substantive OR- Manager of Euracare Multi-specialist Hospital, and also a pioneered member of the green hospital project on Lagos Island where he served as the first Nurse Manager of Evercare Hospital Lekki where he had encouraged, and also provided capacity building for about several nurses because of his passion to change the narrative for registered nurses in Nigeria before he finally relocated back to the United States of America.

As an author, he has been actively contributing to the body of knowledge in Nursing and Medicine with an “Exam Time Companion” for Student Nurses in 2006, Book Chapters in a Scholastic Internal Medicine and Surgical Textbooks published in 2017, and 2018 respectively. He has some clinical publications to his name and his research consortium.

Furthermore, through SNEMIS-Nigeria, its members, and other amazing partners (SNEMIS-Ghana, NAPON, UCH Perioperative Nursing School, The Operating Room Global (TORG), Pan African Organization for Health Education and Research (POHER), SOGHIN, LASSON, ARFH, FNAN, PUPSA, etc provides Nurse Ogundare Johnson with platforms to provide knowledge sharing and skills integration for nurses in Nigeria and abroad.

Johnson Ogundare (AKA Darejoh) has directly or indirectly provided training for nurses and as well participated in healthcare solutions and projects across the board within and outside Nigeria. He is a member of AfPP (UK), AORN (USA), SGNA (USA), ACHE (USA). He is currently the Chairperson, TORG Executive Council of The Operating Room Global (TORG) and had previously served as an Operating Room Global Moderator since the inception of TORG and recently a committee member of the Gastroenterology Division of the African in Diaspora Development Institute with Awards for his service to humanity and capacity building within the healthcare ecosystem.

His passion for excellence in healthcare and dedication to fostering collaboration will undoubtedly drive positive change within our organization and beyond.
