A second British woman has died after undergoing “Brazilian butt lift” surgery, it emerged today.

The woman, aged in her late 20s, died following the cosmetic procedure earlier this year.

It follows the death of 29-year-old Leah Cambridge in August who died while undergoing the operation in Turkey.

The surgery has soared in popularity as women try to emulate the curvy physiques of celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj.

But it has been described by experts as the deadliest cosmetic procedure to have, with an estimated one in 3,000 dying worldwide as a result of complications.

An inquest into the latest victim’s death is due to take place next year.

Gerard Lambe, consultant plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: “It has the highest death rate of all procedures due to the risk of injecting fat into large veins in the buttocks, that can travel to the heart or brain.”

Ms Cambridge, a beautican from Leeds, paid £3,000 for the surgery which sees fat extracted from the waist and injected into the buttocks.

She suffered three heart attacks due to complications from the operation.

Speaking to the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme, one 23-year-old woman from Wales said she had been left scarred for life after having “BBL surgery” in February in Turkey.

Three months after the procedure, infected holes appeared on her buttocks.

She said: “I couldn’t walk properly for ages.

“To be honest, when the holes came it was better as the fat was leaking out, which made it possible to walk again.”

She said her buttocks were leaking for three months, “soaking all my clothes”.

She added: “It smelled. I had to bandage it up every day.

“I honestly wish I could go back. I was happy with my body before. And now I paid a stupid amount of money to look like this.”

Experts say it is costing the NHS thousands of pounds to treat women who have undergone BBL surgery abroad but have had to seek help as a result of it going wrong.
