The Operating Room Global (TORG) is pleased to announce an open call for applications to join the TORG Journal Team. We are looking for dedicated professionals passionate about global surgery, research, and academic publishing to contribute to the establishment and growth of the TORG Journal.
About the TORG Journal
The TORG Journal is a new initiative of The Operating Room Global (TORG) and aims to be a peer-reviewed, open-access platform dedicated to advancing research, policy, and practice in global surgery, anesthesia, perioperative care, allied health and related fields. Our mission is to disseminate high-quality, impactful research that influences surgical systems worldwide.
Available Positions & Responsibilities
1. Editor-in-Chief
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the journal.
- Ensure the journal’s vision aligns with TORG’s mission.
- Make final decisions on manuscript acceptance.
- Represent the journal at professional meetings and collaborations.
- Guide the journal’s indexing strategy and impact improvement efforts.
- Oversee ethical standards and conflict resolution.
- Mentor and support the editorial team.
2. Associate Editors
- Manage peer review processes and oversee manuscript handling.
- Assist in setting editorial policies and journal direction.
- Work closely with reviewers and authors to improve submission quality.
- Contribute to special issues, thematic content, and editorials.
- Ensure timely decisions on manuscripts.
- Identify emerging trends in global surgery research.
- Support advocacy efforts by engaging with global surgical networks.
3. Managing Editor
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the journal.
- Ensure timely publication of accepted articles.
- Coordinate with the editorial board, authors, and reviewers.
- Manage submission workflow and communication.
- Monitor journal performance and suggest operational improvements.
- Supervise production processes from acceptance to publication.
- Liaise with external partners, publishers, and vendors.
4. Section Editors (Surgery, Anesthesia, Nursing, Allied Health, Policy, Research, etc.)
- Oversee content within their specialty area.
- Select appropriate reviewers and make recommendations on manuscripts.
- Assist in developing special issue topics and editorials.
- Ensure high-quality, field-specific content is published.
- Collaborate with professional organizations to boost journal outreach.
- Mentor and guide authors from underrepresented regions.
- Contribute to policy discussions relevant to their specialty.
5. Editorial Board Members
- Provide expertise and guidance on editorial policies.
- Assist in manuscript review and quality control.
- Promote the journal and encourage high-quality submissions.
- Advise on emerging trends in global surgery research.
- Participate in strategic planning for journal growth.
- Engage in advocacy to enhance the journal’s visibility.
- Support indexing and impact factor development efforts.
6. Peer Reviewers
- Critically assess submitted manuscripts for accuracy, relevance, and originality.
- Provide constructive feedback to authors.
- Ensure ethical and scientific integrity in published content.
- Recommend necessary revisions to improve research quality.
- Maintain confidentiality and objectivity in the review process.
- Suggest emerging research topics for special issues.
- Support junior researchers through mentorship-based reviews.
7. Production & Technical Editor
- Oversee the formatting, layout, and final proofing of articles.
- Ensure compliance with journal style and referencing guidelines.
- Manage digital publishing tools and website updates.
- Optimize user experience for online journal access.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to submissions and publication.
- Maintain the digital repository and archives.
- Ensure accessibility compliance for diverse readership.
8. Communications & Outreach Coordinator
- Promote journal content across social media and professional networks.
- Engage with potential authors, readers, and institutions.
- Organize journal-related webinars, events, or collaborations.
- Develop promotional materials for journal branding.
- Strengthen partnerships with academic and professional organizations.
- Manage media relations and press releases.
- Support public engagement initiatives related to global surgery research.
9. Data & Metrics Analyst
- Track journal impact and performance metrics.
- Provide insights on submission trends and readership analytics.
- Suggest strategies for increasing reach and citation rates.
- Monitor indexing databases and recommend steps for improvement.
- Analyze peer review turnaround times and workflow efficiencies.
- Generate annual performance reports for journal stakeholders.
- Benchmark journal performance against competitors.
10. Secretary/PRO
- Handle official journal correspondence, maintain records, and ensure smooth editorial communication.
- Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and track follow-ups on editorial board decisions.
- Send out indexing applications, follow up with databases, and monitor journal indexing progress.
- Represent the journal in advocacy efforts, engaging with institutions, societies, and policymakers.
- Support submission tracking, reviewer assignments, and maintain journal documentation.
- Assist with journal promotion, outreach activities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate journal-related events, sponsorships, and potential funding opportunities.
Eligibility & Application Process
We welcome applications from professionals, researchers, and academicians with expertise in global surgery, anesthesia, perioperative care, public health, and medical publishing. Prior editorial or peer review experience is an advantage but not mandatory for all roles.
Note that all roles are voluntary and all positions are available except TORGJ Editor-in-Chief.
