Call for Interest: International Audit on WHO Surgical Safety Checklist Implementation in Low-Resourced Settings
The TORG Global Research Team is launching an international audit to assess the implementation of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist in low-resourced settings. This initiative aims to generate high-quality, multi-site data that can influence policies and drive improvements in surgical safety worldwide.
We invite hospitals, surgical teams, and researchers from across the TORG community and beyond to participate.
Why Join?
- Be part of a high-impact, multi-country research initiative.
- Contribute to global surgical safety policy discussions.
- Opportunities for co-authorship in resulting publications.
Who Can Participate?
- Hospitals, surgical departments, and perioperative professionals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) or resource-limited settings.
- Researchers and institutions interested in surgical safety, quality improvement, and patient outcomes.
- Participants do not need to be current members of TORG.
Specific Criteria for Participating Institutions
To ensure meaningful data collection, institutions should meet the following criteria: Must be a hospital or surgical facility that performs surgical procedures.
Must be located in a low-resource setting (e.g., LMICs, rural hospitals, or underfunded health systems).
Must have active use or attempted implementation of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
Must be willing to provide retrospective or prospective data on checklist usage, compliance, and surgical outcomes.
Must have at least one designated local investigator (surgeon, anesthetist, perioperative nurse, or researcher) responsible for data collection.
Institutional approval or ethical clearance may be required based on local regulations.
Your participation will amplify the impact of this study and help shape global surgical safety standards.
Let’s work together to drive change and improve patient safety worldwide!
Deadline for Interests: 30th April, 2025.
