Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup said Sunday it is canceling more than 140 elective surgeries this week after discovering flecks of plastic on some surgical trays.

KIRO 7 reached out to a spokesperson who said sometime last week, the hospital noticed the plastic after the trays left the sterilization processing system.

The spokesperson said the hospital is testing to figure out where the plastic is coming from and is investigating multiple possible causes.

The hospital will continue to perform emergency surgeries and said they have enough sterile trays for those prodecedures.

The hospital said safety is a top priority and has no reason to believe there’s been any risk to patients.
