Thank you for your interest in participating in the TORG Project E-25, titled “Identifying Novel Biomarkers for Postoperative Delirium in Older Surgical Patients After Major Non-Cardiac Surgery and Anesthesia”.
This flagship project by TORG Global Research Team (TORG-GRT) aims to identify and validate plasma biomarkers associated with postoperative delirium (POD) and develop predictive models to stratify at-risk elderly patients undergoing surgery.

We are now inviting expressions of interest from qualified investigators, institutions, and clinical sites with an interest in the following to collaborate on this groundbreaking initiative:
- Recruitment of older surgical patients
- Biobanking or plasma sampling capacity
- Delirium monitoring using tools like CAM-ICU
- Participation in multi-site data sharing and analysis
Participation in this study offers co-authorship opportunities, access to pooled data, and involvement in capacity-building efforts around biomarker-based perioperative research.
Project Summary
- Focus: Postoperative delirium (POD) in older surgical patients
- Goals: Biomarker discovery, clinical validation, and predictive modeling
- Potential Impact: Earlier diagnosis, risk stratification, and targeted interventions
Eligibility Criteria for Participating Investigators/Institutions
1. Clinical Capabilities
- Access to surgical populations aged ≥65 years (e.g. orthopedic, general, or oncologic surgeries etc)
- Ability to screen and monitor patients for POD using validated tools (e.g., CAM-ICU, 3D-CAM)
- Capacity for perioperative blood sample collection (pre-op and post-op at defined intervals)
2. Research Infrastructure
- Availability of or access to basic biobanking/laboratory facilities for plasma handling
- Ethics review board (IRB) or national approval mechanisms in place for clinical research
3. Investigator Profile
We welcome investigators from the following disciplines:
- Anesthesiology / Perioperative Medicine
- Orthopedic Surgery / Maxillofacial Surgery
- Neuroscience / Neurosurgery / Psychiatry
- Obs & Gynecological Surgery / General Surgery
- Oncological Surgery / Bariatric Surgery
- Clinical Epidemiology / Translational Research / Laboratory Medicine
4. Collaboration Readiness
- Willingness to participate in multi-site data sharing
- Capacity to comply with unified protocols and timelines
- Commitment to co-authorship ethics and shared dissemination
📢 Why Collaborate?
- Join a global, multidisciplinary consortium advancing surgical neuroscience
- Contribute to biomarker discovery and validation with real-world clinical impact
- Gain access to pooled data, technical expertise, and high-impact publication opportunities
This project will operate under the Umbrella Ethics Oversight of The Operating Room Global Institutional Review Board (TORG-IRB), which ensures that international standards for human subject research are upheld. Participating sites will either obtain local IRB approval or may request reliance on TORG-IRB when applicable. If your team or institution aligns with the above criteria and is interested in joining this initiative, kindly complete the form below before the deadline of June 30th, 2025.
